The decisive meeting of the United National Party Working Committee will take at 4pm today at the party headquarters, Sirikotha, under the patronage of party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe.
General Secretary of the UNP Tissa Attanayake said names for vacant positions, including Deputy Leader will be proposed at the meeting.
He said the party leader is vested with the responsibility of proposing a name for the vacant position of Deputy Leader.
The General Secretary added if multiple names are proposed for a particular position a vote will be called to select a respective candidate.
He said if an appointment is unacceptable it should be made known via a written statement.
MP Attanayake meanwhile tendered in his resignation from the party Leadership Council yesterday.
The working committee is expected to hold a discussion over the resignation of the party secretary as well.
